Sometimes I think: how far human civilization has come ...
A story about an event organized in 2009 along the Bega river, Timisoara - Romania. This is what the organizers wanted: Before the race started, for 5 lei (~1,17 Euro), anyone could have “bought” a duckling. The owners of the first ducklings to pass the Youth Bridge in Timisoara would get awarded with 1000 Euro. The organizers planned on cleaning the river after all the little ducks passed the bridge. Each of the "participants" in the competition will have an identification number and the owner will receive a coupon with it." You can not buy those that will compete in the contest; you only get the participation coupon." However, organizers have made publicly available souvenir ducklings, smaller, for 5 lei. ”The Duckling Race" is a philanthropic event, already taking part in many cities of the world, organized in Timisoara by the Rotary Club during the Bega Avenue Festival, organized by the City Hall.
And this is what happened:
The organizers left the ducklings in the water until all have passed under the bridge. As the ducklings got closer to the shore children, men and women, elderly or not, began to take them as a souvenir.. While this was happening the organizers kept telling everyone that those ducks are leased and they will have to pay with the funds gathered, but nobody listened to them.
So the contest became a hunt.
